LordsWay Baptist Church History...

In the beginning, there was God, who laid the foundation and breathed the vision for LordsWay Baptist Church into the hearts and minds of these founding members:

  • Jerry and Virginia Thompson,

  • Don and Diane Thompson,

  • E.L. and Jeannine Lovette,

  • Ellison and Crystal Frank, and

  • Don and Brenda Fox.

The first services were held in the Fall of 2002 within a building behind the home of Jerry and Virginia Thompson in the Wampee community of Horry County.  At the very first service, members fondly recall singing Alleluia without musical instruments, and the Holy Spirit filling the room.

In November 2002, LordsWay Baptist Church was incorporated and the services were moved to another location.  But it was not until July 2005 that the church moved into its present facilities.

Today, it's quite obvious that God is pleased with this new church because He continues to pour out His blessings upon it every single day.

The church is blessed with a very special pastor, the Rev. Michael R. Stewart, and his family, who believe as does the congregation, that the church must be based solidly upon God's Holy Word, and be built in a manner that's always Christ-centered, and not man-centered.  Pastor Stewart has also shown the church the responsibility and rewards of sponsoring mission projects and becoming involved in the benevolence of others.  Among the many mission projects which the church has sponsored are For The Love Of Mia, a Bone Marrow Drive, Teen Challenge, and Fostering Hope.  These are just a few of the many ways that LordsWay Baptist Church continues to exude the hope, compassion and the heart to do God's will.

The church has grown from not even having a piano to where now it has an Adult Choir, a Children's Choir, and the CrossTied praise band which has been instrumental in attracting youth and young families to the church.  The CrossTied band has now grown and developed to the point where it is preparing for a series of four major quarterly concerts this year, called CROSSTIED IN CONCERT, featuring two hours of original CrossTied music and testimonies written and inspired for these special events.  CrossTied is also preparing to produce and release its own new CD later this year.

Few local churches in the area have ever grown as rapidly as LordsWay Baptist Church is growing.  In a span of three months from October through December alone, God has blessed the church with 23 new members.  Not just new members, but members with unusual and special talents needed to help build and take the church up to the next level.  These are people who also love the Lord and have been thirsting for a good church home that's totally centered around pleasing God.

Today, LordsWay Baptist Church is engaged in a major three-month church marketing and membership campaign which over the next several months is expected to flood the church with visitors and new members.  Tens of thousands of postcards, invitations, flyers, sticky notes, posters, signs, along with newspaper advertising, a new website, a 24/7 church information and voice message center phone line, are all being combined to get the word out to the community about the church and invite new families and members to join.

A new building which will house a new Fellowship Hall and a greatly expanded LordsWay Baptist Child Development Center are already in the works for construction this summer.  In addition, the church owns 11 acres of land and is well-positioned to begin expanding the sanctuary and adding new wings and extensions to the church as needed to accommodate the expected growth of the congregation.

A larger bus has also been donated to the church to expand its youth ministry by launching a new bus ministry.  A Youth Advisory Council has been formed to oversee and further develop a greatly expanded IGNITE youth ministry, which is one of the largest youth programs in the area   Church members are already lining up and excited to help out with the new bus ministry.

As exciting as the LordsWay Baptist Church's history has already been over these past four years, what's amazing is that the future looks even brighter!  Yes, God is blessing the church in every direction.  He's sending us new people and families all the time who really need and want Him in their lives.  If you need evidence of that, consider this.  He's put it upon your heart to visit this website and to go check out the church.  We believe you will come visit us, and we know you're going to like what you find.  It's only a matter of time until you, too, will likely become a part of the early church history of LordsWay Baptist Church, because we're still young and we're surely growing!
